Face lift
Over the years, the effects of gravity, sun exposure and the stress of daily life reflect in people’s faces. Deep creases form between the nose and mouth, the jaw line grows slack while the skin around the face and neck loses its elasticity.
Facelift
cannot stop the aging process but it can set back the clock by improving the
most visible signs of aging, tightening muscles, skin and underlying tissue.
A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with
forehead lift,
eyelid
surgery or
nose reshaping.
The best candidate for a facelift
The best candidate for a facelift is a man or woman whose face and neck have started to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity. Most patients are in their forties-sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on older people.
A facelift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self- confidence in the process without changing your face.
The procedure is performed at one of our private hospitals and in most cases requires general anesthesia. In special cases it can be done with local anesthesia in combination with sedation.
The surgery
A facelift usually takes 4 hours or somewhat longer if you are having more than one procedure done. Every patient has different requirements and you need to discuss them extensively with the surgeon.
Incisions usually begin above the hairline, extent in a natural line in front of the ear and continue behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. The basic idea is to tighten the underlying muscle, skin and tissue with incisions well hidden and not visible.
After your surgery
There isn’t usually significant discomfort after surgery. If there is, it can be reduced with medication prescribed by the surgeon. Some numbness will disappear gradually. Swelling will also be reduced after 3-4 days and stitches infront of the ear are removed after 5 days.
The stitches above the hairline and behind the ear are removed after 7-10 days.
Getting back to normal
You should take it easy in the first week although you should be allowed to wash your hair after 1-2 days. Your surgeon will give you specific guidance. Swelling disappears over time and most people return to work within 10 days after surgery.
